EN50332 Sound Pressure Test
1、 What is EN50332 testing?
As is well known, listening to music at high volume for a long time can cause damage to the ears. EN50332 specifies the testing of sound pressure, output voltage, and audio stability for portable playback devices to prevent such damage. The scope of its testing includes all portable audio devices with headphones or headphone jacks, as well as individual headphone products that require EN50332 testing.
2、 Test classification of EN50332
EN50332 is divided into two parts, EN50332-1 (whole machine sound pressure test) and EN50332-2, which are further divided into EN50332-2-1 (player output voltage) and EN50332-2-2 (headphone broadband characteristic voltage test). EN50332-1 includes a measurement of maximum sound pressure level for the performance of the player and headphones when used together, while EN50332-2 includes two tests for the maximum output voltage of the player and the broadband characteristic output voltage of the headphones.
According to the standard, the measurement of the maximum sound pressure level needs to be repeated five times, and each time the headphones need to be removed and fixed again. The average value is the final test result, and the maximum sound pressure level cannot exceed 100dB. The Maximum Output Voltage is the unweighted effective value measured by loading the electrical signal from the headphone jack of the player onto a 32 Ω load, and requires an average time of at least 30 seconds. Wide Band Characteristic Voltage (WBCV) refers to the voltage value of the input electrical signal when the sound pressure level at the earphone reaches 94dB. According to the standard, the maximum output voltage cannot exceed 150mV, and the broadband characteristic voltage cannot be lower than 75mV.
3、 EN50332 Testing Requirements
1. The product must be tested in a soundproof room to avoid environmental noise interference. The earphone is installed on a standard artificial ear, and a microphone is installed inside the artificial ear to collect the sound emitted by the earphone. Analyze and record the maximum sound pressure value (LAeq) of each audio using an audio analyzer. The standard audio source used for testing is IEC60268-1.
2. The signal strength for playing audio products is -10dB for digital signals (CD, DVD, MP3) and -6dB for analog signal cassette. FM radio requires an antenna to transmit a dial signal (-6dB) for reception. The volume adjustment button of the audio system should be set to the maximum volume, and a total of 5 measurements should be taken, taking the average of the five measurements.
