JATE certification in Japan

1、 Japanese JATE certification concept:

JATE (Japan Approval Institute for Telecommunications Equipment) is the main registered certification body for technical compliance certification of telecommunications equipment in Japan. Telecommunications equipment compliance JATE certification requires technical regulatory compliance certification for communication equipment connected to the telecommunications network. JATE certification is mandatory and the certification body is a registered certification body recognized by MIC. The Japanese Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs, Postal and Telecommunications (MPHPT) has stipulated in the Japanese Telecommunications Business Law that mandatory certification is required for telecommunications equipment in Japan.

2、 The Importance of JATE Certification:

JATE certification, commonly known as the Japanese Telecommunications Act, is required for mobile phone products to comply with the testing requirements of Japan's Telecommunications Act (commonly known as JATE certification) and Radio Wave Act (commonly known as TELEC certification) before they can be legally marketed.

3、 Certification standards

The certification standards are determined by JATE based on MIC requirements and the technical requirements of MIC authorized operators, with reference to the Telecommunications Industry Law.

4、 JATE certified products:

Ordinary telephone equipment, public network telecommunications equipment.

Special reminder: When doing Telec/MIC certification, if the transmission power of low output wireless phones, wireless microphones, emergency alarm transmitters, FM transmitters, etc. on the market is less than the limit in the following figure, this function can be exempted from certification.

5、 JATE certification types (two types)

1) Technical Conditions Compliance Certification

Technical compliance certification includes type approval and single machine certification. Technical compliance certification ensures that telephone network equipment, wireless calling equipment, ISDN equipment, leased line equipment, etc. can meet the technical requirements (terminal equipment related regulations) formulated by MPHPT.

2) Technical Requirements Compliance Certification

Technical requirement compliance certification includes type approval and standalone certification. Technical requirement compliance certification ensures that wireless calling equipment, leased line equipment, and other telecommunications equipment meet certain technical requirements, which are formulated by telecommunications operators authorized by MPHPT.

The current mobile phone standards that can be used in Japan are: PHS、PDC、CDMA2000、WCDMA。 Among them, PHS is a technology developed locally in Japan and has also been introduced to China, which is commonly known as Little Smart. PDC is also a technology developed locally in Japan, and currently its main application is still in Japan. CDMA 2000 and WCDMA are two well-known 3G technologies. Due to the lack of GSM network in Japan, GSM standard mobile phones cannot be used in Japan.
